How do you enter a cold pool?
Maybe you wade in slowly as your body adjusts, or, like me, jump in and get the shock over with quickly. For our first swim in the pool this year - we have no heater by the way! - I dipped my toe in and I just knew there was no chance I’d ever talk myself in to getting in unless I jumped off the deep-end. My husband even tried to tell me the temperature the thermometer read before going in. No way! That would just get inside my head.
So the kids counted to three (and you can’t chicken out in front of your kids). It was 71!!! A little cold for my liking... But I guess I have been in lakes that cold before.
Look, sometimes, when you’re faced with something scary, you just need to Jump in feet First... commit, enthusiastically and without hesitation. You're not always going to feel ready.
This does not mean ‘leap before you look’ (even though that’s what I did!), it just means get in and adjust once you're there. Taking action and embracing opportunities without overthinking or delaying can lead to great rewards... like a fun afternoon in the pool with family. Happy Monday.
